RIDE THE FORGOTTEN TRACKS OF GUATEMALA, 1000 KM, >65% TRAILS
This 7-day adventure takes you deep into Guatemala’s hidden history and raw beauty. From Mayan ruins to forgotten railway lines, lush pineapple fields to Caribbean beaches, this journey is a living story of a land where cultures, landscapes, and time itself converge.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Guatemala City & Transfer to Antigua Upon landing at La Aurora International Airport (GUA), our team greets you and transfers you to the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala. Nestled among volcanoes, Antigua’s cobblestone streets and historic charm are the perfect start. A welcome dinner introduces you to your guides and fellow riders.
Day 2 – Antigua to Mixco Viejo to El Rancho After an early briefing, we set off from Antigua toward Mixco Viejo, an ancient Mayan citadel perched above deep canyons. After exploring its temples and fortifications, we head east to pick up the route of the old Ferrocarril de Guatemala, the historic railway that once connected Guatemala City to Puerto Barrios. Following forgotten tracks, rustic bridges, and rural trails, we ride until El Rancho, where we spend the night.
Day 3 – El Rancho to Mariscos The ride continues along the abandoned railway. Expect single-track passages, river crossings, and bridges that whisper stories of another era. We push further east, traversing tropical lowlands until we reach Mariscos, a vibrant town in Izabal, known for its golden stones and calm water.
Day 4 – Mariscos to Punta de Palma to RÃo Dulce Today the railway trail leads us through majestic pineapple plantations and pine forests. By midday, we arrive at the Caribbean coast at Punta de Palma. A swim in the warm sea recharges us before we continue toward RÃo Dulce, a jungle river town known for its iconic bridge and laid-back vibe.
Day 5 – RÃo Dulce to Semuc Champey We leave the coast behind and head inland, climbing into lush mountain terrain until we reach Semuc Champey, one of Guatemala’s natural wonders. Its turquoise pools and limestone bridges are the perfect place to refresh after a challenging ride.
Day 6 – Semuc Champey to Antigua The final big ride of the expedition takes us back through mountain passes, forest trails, and highland roads, until we return to Antigua Guatemala. The evening is marked by a celebratory farewell dinner in one of its colonial courtyards.
Day 7 – Departure Private transfer to La Aurora International Airport for your flight home. You leave not only with memories but also with the spirit of Guatemala’s forgotten trails in your heart.
