1. Do I need prior off-road experience? We recommend at least intermediate riding skills. You don’t need to be a pro, but you should be comfortable handling a motorcycle on dirt, gravel, and uneven terrain. Our guides adjust the pace and offer tips along the way.
4.What is not included? Not included: International flights; Lunches, snacks, and drinks; Personal travel/health insurance (mandatory); Personal expenses, tips, and souvenirs; Motorcycle damages
7.How big are the groups? We keep our tours small — usually 4 to 6 riders — to ensure safety, authenticity, and flexibility.
10.Can tours be customized? Absolutely. Beyond our standard 7-, 9-, and 14-day tours, we offer Tailored Adventures — custom routes and durations designed around your preferences.
13.Is pricing flexible? We do our best to keep costs as low as possible for our guests. Other tours may have lower rates but they mostly use either cheap Chinese bikes or heavy Dual Purpose. We are the only Operator in Guatemala offering KTM & Husqvarna Enduro Bikes. Besides we grant to overnight alway in the best option locally offered. How much would you charge a stranger to take your race bike for a full day riding? When you add our guides, service, location, and reputation, TWT delivers the riding vacation of your dreams. We extend discounts for return trips and have offer discounts for customers who promote their trips and The Whispering Trails on personal YouTube pages, Facebook, twitter and other social media!
16.How often do you run tours? We run tours year-round, with the exception of September & October. We essentially have two climates that accompany our expeditions. On the highlands, daytime temperatures are hot, averaging 77/82 degrees, but at night, especially between December and February, temperatures can become chilly, even below 50 degrees.. We typically run 2 expeditions per months. Expeditions between December-March be reserved between 6 months and 1-year in advance.
19.Do the guides have Satellite Phones? We no longer need Satellite Phones. Cell service is great and lead/chase guides always carry cell phones.
2.What kind of motorcycles do you provide? We use KTM and Husqvarna Enduro Motorcycles. All bikes are well-maintained and equipped for long-distance off-road expeditions.
5. Do I need insurance? Yes. Personal travel/health insurance covering medical care, accidents, and emergency evacuation is mandatory. This is separate from the third-party liability insurance included for the motorcycle.
8.What is the riding day like? Expect 6–8 hours of riding daily, with breaks for meals, photos, and experiences. Terrain varies from paved sections to challenging off-road (river crossings, single tracks, mountain trails).
11.How far in advance do we need to book a Tour? Depends on Number of Riders, but assume December-April sells out 6 months to 1 year in advance (All the snow state and Canadian riders!) and other months about 3-5 months in advance.
14.What is the best time of year to visit? For hardcore off-road riders Guatemala can be ridden year round. While less prevalent on the coast than the middle of the country, the rainy season does last from August – October. Rain during this season typically starts in late afternoon, lets off and and then starts again in early evening. If you’re doing a Guys Trip, the occasional showers is almost a blessing on the trails. If you’re doing Family Trip its best to visit us November-July.
17.What kind of bikes do you use? We have a solid fleet of Enduro bikes: Ktm EXC-F and Husqvarna FE. All bikes are equipped with a light Rally Tower with a robust phone holder, a USB socket and a 52L Tusk Saddlebag. We will provide all expedition participants with a handled two-way radio to stay in contact with our guides.
3. What’s included in the price? Your tour includes: Motorcycle + fuel; Accommodations (eco-lodges, boutique hotels, or similar); Daily breakfast and dinner; 2 Professional bilingual guides; Third-party liability motorcycle insurance; Airport transfers (arrival & departure). 6. What is your cancellation policy? Free cancellation up to 30 days before arrival. From 30 days before arrival, 100% of the balance is charged and it is non refundable. Payments are required in the following order: 20% at the time of booking; full balance, 30 days before arrival.
9.What should I bring? We provide the motorcycles, tools and spares. You should bring: Personal riding gear (helmet, boots, protections, everything you need for a safe ride). Light rain gear Comfortable clothing for evenings Swimsuit for lagoons and hot springs Travel documents and insurance proof. Bear in mind that nights and early morning can be chilly on the highlands.
12.Does TWT offer one-day riding trips? The answer is ‘not really’. You must book a tour with TWT in order to ride our KTM & Husqvarna. We do not allow “walk-up” tourists to rent our bikes.
15.Describe in general what the tours do. We explore Guatemala, ride every imaginable terrain, visit insane locations, provide first-class, catered, accommodations, and offer a myriad of additional adventure sports. You hop on your KTM or Husqvarna and ride, the jungle, the mountains the volcanos, the coast and have the best vacation ever. 18.Do I need a motorcycle licensee? Riders must hold a valid motorcycle license.
